Wikitoki is a project in  perpetual Beta-version, as it is based in a permanent practical questioning about the collective ways of doing, relating and organising.

Currently, we are in a start-up phase where we are focused on recognising and identifying each other, setting up our common interests and objectives. We are now concerned about matters related to how we function, and specifically, two main aspects:

  • Designing different partnership categories as ways of joining / participating / belonging to the community (levels of commitment/ compromise / responsibility / rights…)
  • Developing a governance model and a viability plan for Wikitoki.

Ways of participating

There are two membership / partnership categories:

  • Wikitoker: people or entities that participate in an active way in the everyday life of the organisation such as management, organisation of activities, distribution of tasks and making decisions. There are different kinds of wikiTokers based on how they use the common spaces of Wikitoki:
    • Txokers: They have permanent working places and use all the common facilities frequently.
    • Mahaiers: They use their working places -which consist in shared tables- and the common facilities occasionally.
    • Sarer: They don’t need a working space and may use the common facilities sporadically.
  • Wikilagun: They are people or entities that fee some level of involvement with the project and contribute to its development by supporting it and participating in activities. In order to gain access to Wikitoki spaces, one must become a wikilagun member.

Management model

Our management model strives to be non-hierarchical, transparent, Peer-to-Peer and co-responsible. It is developed through a critical process where we address conflicts and try to overcome routines and habits. It is a result of collective work and of the  experiences we have amassed through similar initiatives that  we are involved with.

This model is articulated through:

  • An assembly that meets every two weeks is the legitimate mechanism for  dialogue and decision making.
  • Working groups for on-going management as well as for specific Wikitoki projects. These groups are: Governance, Physical Space, Activities and Communication. The participation of Wikitoki members in each workgroup is rotative.
  • “Auzolan” practices – which means “communitarian work” in Basque language – for maintaining common resources.

A Time Bank as a way of managing the time/dedication balance  and responsibilities of all the members.
